Painting Classes
BEGINNING OIL PAINTING with MATERESE ROCHE |
Learn the basics of oil painting with inspiration from "Old Master" techniques and methods. Working with still life and with a limited palette, you will learn the foundations of ; materials use and handling, composition, value, basic color mixing and creating 3 dimensional illusion. Suitable for individuals with limited or no oil painting experience.

CONTINUING OIL STUDIES with MATERESE ROCHE |
This class will develop and refine skills learned in Beginning Oil Painting. Subjects include still life and plaster casts. Emphasis will be placed on expressing light, form, texture and color harmony. A full palette will be utilized. Suitable for students who have recent oil painting instruction and feel comfortable with the medium.

PORTRAIT PAINTING from PHOTOGRAPHS with TOM FORAL

Working from photos to create striking portraits has its own challenges, despite the fact that the subject never moves! Focus is on the basics: drawing, likeness, composition, and color. Please bring in examples of your work for the first class.

TOM FORAL has painted Princess Grace of Monaco, Bill Blass and Eudora Welty. He is also an acclaimed stage, costume designer and home furnishings designer. He has shown extensively in Manhattan and locally at Phillips’ Mill and other venues.

PAINTING the COSTUMED FIGURE with GEORGE THOMPSON |
Each week a different model will be dressed in unique and fun attire. We�ll discuss drawing, painting, value, color and the challenges of painting the draped figure in a single session. This class is open to all levels and styles. A list of materials will be available at Mixed Media.

GEORGE THOMPSON received his BFA from Pratt Institute and also studied at the Brooklyn Museum and the Art Students League in New York. As an illustrator his work has appeared in many major publications including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. His award-winning fine art can be found in prominent collections throughout the US. Locally, his work can be seen at the Sabine Rose Gallery and area exhibitions. |
PLEIN AIR LANDSCAPE PAINTING with STEVE MESSENGER |
You will work on site in oil or acrylic. Students will learn how to block out a landscape using mass and light. Attention will be given to proportion.

PAINTING IN THE FLEMISH SCHOOL: MASTER CLASSES with COULTER WATT |
An overview for advanced painters with a command of draftsmanship. The full spectrum of how to paint will be covered; learning lean to fat, mediums, glazing and varnishing. You'll learn how to set up a still life, light it and paint it as well as color theory, color and value, tone and undertone, why it happens and how to control it. We will discuss the metaphors and the meaning of content in images and finding your voice. Applicants must submit 2 examples of their work 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the class, in order to assess skill level.

COULTER WATT graduated from The School of Visual Arts in New York City in two disciplines; painting and filmmaking. As a filmmaker, he served as the Director of Photography for Judy Collins’ Academy Award-winning film “Antonia, A Portrait of a Woman”, “James at 15” and numerous documentaries. As a painter he has been represented by the 57th Street Gallery in NYC, and is locally at the DesChamps Gallery in Lambertville. |

Ideal for individuals who have always wanted to learn how to draw, but don't know where to begin. Learn the fundamentals of drawing; creating basic 3 dimensional form; understanding light and values; and an introduction to basic composition. This is an ideal starter class for those who want to move on to painting or more advanced drawing.

Scott has taught at Bucks County Community College, Chandler Hall Health Services, and trained teachers in fine arts at George School. She is also active in theater set design at the Annenberg and Touchstone Theaters. Scott has exhibited widely in the area, from Phillips� Mill to the Philadelphia Watercolor Club. |
PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS© A CREATIVE TOOL for PAINTERS with DOTT BUNN |
Learn to use the software "Photoshop Elements" to organize, file, crop, adjust color and contrast, and the difference between canvas size and image size. Discover techniques for preparing your digital images as reference for creating art. Participants must bring their own laptop with PhotoShop Elements� installed and a digital camera with connecting cable. LEARN HOW TO MAT YOUR OWN ARTWORK

Payment must accompany registration. A list of class materials will be mailed or emailed to you.
All workshops are held at Mixed Media's Front Room Studios or in the Gallery. Space is limited and class sizes are restricted.
CANCELLATIONS: Classes are subject to reaching a minimum number of students. If they do not reach the minimum by one week prior to the scheduled start date the class may be cancelled. Any registrations received for a class cancelled by Mixed Media will, of course, be fully refunded. Students may cancel their reservation for a full refund until the class reaches the minimum. Once the minimum is reached, all registrations are final. Registrations cancelled after that may be refunded, at Mixed Media's discretion, for store credit only.
